World Heritage Site
For the UNESCO World Heritage Site, this project focused on Delos, an island in the Aegean Sea that has significant mythological and historical importance in Greece. The island is open to archeologists and researchers, as well as the average tourist, and is a massive archaeological site that’s especially known for its well-preserved sculptures and mosaics. This idea is reflected in the logo design, which is symbol abstract and based on a statue found on the island; it employs figure/ground through the use of smaller shapes that resemble mosaic pieces like the mosaics found on Delos.
Below the logo is the site’s name which uses the Avenir typeface. This typeface is used continuously throughout all the design components. The colors chosen for the logo and overall color palette include a primary vibrant light blue and dark blue that are reminiscent of the sea surrounding Delos.
The bifold incorporates the underlying idea of mosaic pieces into the layout as the content and images are separated into unique shapes by sharp diagonals. The images used in the bifold show the inspiration behind the design, including the statue the logo is based on and the island’s most famous mosaic.
The stationery designs, such as the business card, use direct shapes from the logo as background elements; these elements are used to frame important information within the stationery, adding additional hierarchy outside of scaling the text. This way the designs are not just consistent with the logo design, but the inclusion of logo elements in the designs create an overall system. Together, every component speaks to a simple elegance that is appealing to tourists and researchers alike.
