KGLT T-Shirt Design
This design was created for a t-shirt design contest hosted by KGLT. The requirements for this competition was that the design must be radio oriented, had a 4 color limit, and had to contain the words “KGLT”, “Bozeman, MT” and “alternative public radio”. The illustration of the girl with the radio is based on an actual picture from the 1950s. This design was inspired by the Pop art style of the 1950s, specifically the part of the movement that utilized comic book characteristics, such as simple lines, speech bubbles, and panel structure.
By using a picture from the 1950s, as well as basing the style from an artistic movement of the same period, this design appears retro and appeals to nostalgia. While there are various color palettes for this design, the primary color palette uses a warm orange and pink because they work best with the image of the bubbly teen girl. The color palette is also limited to a couple colors so the design is not overcomplicated and overwhelmed. The contrasting of bright, modern colors with a retro subject and style encompasses the vibe of popular alternative music.
